SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION (SMP)

Houston, Texas Hair Loss & Density Tattoo Solutions for Men

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is an advanced cosmetic tattoo procedure designed to recreate the appearance of natural hair follicles within the scalp. This treatment creates the illusion of added density, a fuller scalp, and a more defined hairline for men experiencing hair loss, thinning and balding.

At Inked & Blinked in Houston, Texas, every SMP treatment is fully customized to your natural hair pattern, skin tone, facial structure, and long-term goals for the most realistic healed results possible.

What Can SMP Help Improve?

SMP is commonly used for:

  • Receding hairlines

  • Male pattern baldness

  • Thinning hair

  • Crown thinning

  • Density loss

  • Alopecia

  • Scar camouflage, including FUE/FUT hair transplant scars

  • The overall appearance of a fuller, more defined scalp

Whether you are wanting a sharper hairline, the appearance of thicker hair, or a more youthful overall look, SMP offers a long-lasting and low-maintenance solution.

Many men choose SMP because it creates the illusion of natural hair density while providing a realistic shaved-head appearance without surgery or daily maintenance products. SMP is designed to blend naturally into your existing hair pattern and facial features while avoiding an overly harsh or artificial look.

SMP does not replace actual hair growth.

Important Hair Length Requirements

For the most realistic healed results, clients receiving traditional shaved-look SMP are required to maintain a very short haircut, typically a 0 or 00 guard.

This is extremely important because SMP is designed to replicate the appearance of tiny shaved hair follicles within the scalp. Keeping the hair cut consistently short allows the impressions to blend naturally with the existing hair growth pattern and prevents the tattoo from appearing disconnected from the surrounding hair.

Clients wanting a shaved-head appearance should expect to continue maintaining a closely cropped hairstyle moving forward for the most seamless and natural long-term result.

What To Expect

When you arrive for your treatment appointment, the first portion of every SMP session is dedicated to mapping and designing your hairline and overall density placement. I will draw directly on the scalp to create a shape that blends naturally with your facial structure, head shape, and existing hair pattern. We will continue adjusting and refining the design together until you feel completely comfortable and happy before any tattooing begins.

SMP is considered a Multi session procedure and  requires:

  • 2–3 sessions

  • Sessions spaced approximately 2–3 weeks apart

  • Gradual layering for the most realistic healed results

Please understand that SMP is NOT a one-session procedure  and honestly, if someone is trying to complete it all in one session… run 😅

Why? Because the goal is to avoid:

  • Pigment migration

  • Large obvious dots

  • Oversaturation

  • Dark “helmet head” or ink-stained appearance

The entire purpose of SMP is to create the illusion of tiny hair follicles spread naturally throughout the scalp. This realistic effect is created gradually over multiple sessions using controlled layering techniques. Most clients truly begin seeing the treatment come together and look like “what it’s supposed to look like” after the second session.

Some clients do choose or require a third session depending on skin retention, scalp condition, and desired density, however industry standard is typically a minimum of two sessions.

Immediately after your appointment, the scalp will usually appear red and inflamed for approximately 24–48 hours. This temporary redness can make it more difficult to judge the final appearance right away. Most dramatic before-and-after photos seen online are almost always photographed after 2–3 completed healed sessions — not immediately after a single appointment.

Results will always heal softer and more natural-looking compared to topical products or makeup sitting on top of the skin.

Aftercare is reviewed thoroughly again at your appointment and is overall very simple. The main goal is allowing the scalp proper healing time by avoiding water, sweating, and excessive moisture on the scalp for approximately 5 days after each session.

Who May NOT Be A Candidate For SMP

SMP is not ideal for everyone. During your consultation, we will determine whether this treatment is appropriate for your specific scalp, hair pattern, and goals.

You may not be a good candidate if:

  • You are unwilling to keep the hair consistently very short

  • You are wanting the appearance of long/thick hair rather than density enhancement

  • You have certain active scalp conditions or infections

  • You are expecting SMP to physically regrow hair

  • You are looking for an unrealistic hairline

  • You are unable to commit to multiple sessions

SMP Consultation Required

An in-person consultation is required prior to booking all Scalp Micropigmentation procedures to determine if you are a good fit.

The consultation appointment does have a small consultation fee; however, the consultation fee will be applied toward the balance of your SMP procedure if you decide to move forward with treatment.

During your consultation, we will discuss:

  • Your scalp and hair loss history

  • Current hair pattern and scalp condition

  • Your personal goals and expectations

  • Everyday lifestyle and maintenance

  • Hairline design and density goals

  • Proper hair length requirements

  • Realistic healed expectations

  • Pricing and long-term maintenance

Pre-care instructions and detailed procedure information are also reviewed thoroughly during the consultation process so you fully understand what to expect before committing to treatment.

Each SMP treatment session is currently priced at $475 per session.

SMP is considered a multi-session procedure and most clients require a minimum of 2 sessions for the most natural and realistic healed outcome.
